AMERICA'S FINAL CALL!

The door is closing on your Land
I keep on knocking to come in
But you have shut your heart to Me
I can no longer bear your sin

Your Nation stood upon My Word
A strong foundation built on truth
Your leaders sought to fear My name
And would not waver from its roots.

Your land became a Promised Land
Where milk and honey blessed the world
And all who came found hope and peace
As Lady Liberty foretold.

Then fame and fortune turned your head
While prayer no longer filled your thoughts
The Bible soon was put aside
And "self" became the object sought.

Now shame and violence fills your streets
With homes and schools all torn apart
And human life no longer bears
The image of My loving heart.

I weep for you as judgment calls
For retribution to begin
My Spirit is no longer there
To intercede because of sin.

But I'll keep knocking at your door
I long to come and heal your Land
But you must call upon My name
And in repentance take your stand.

THE NAME THAT IS ABOVE EVERY NAME!

"Jesus came from the bosom of the Father to the bosom of a woman. He put on humanity that we might put on divinity.  He became son of man that we might become sons of God.  He was born contrary to the laws of nature, lived in poverty, was reared in obscurity, and only once crossed the boundary of the land in which he was born and that in his childhood.  he had no wealth or influence and had neither training or education in the world's schools.  His relatives were inconspicuous and uninfluential.  In infancy he startled the king.  In boyhood He puzzled the learned doctors.  In manhood he ruled the course of nature. He walked upon the billows and hushed the seas asleep. He healed the multitudes without medicine and made no charge for His services.  He never wrote a book, yet all the libraries of the country could not hold all of the books about him.  He never wrote a song, yet He has furnished the theme for more songs than all songwriters together.  He never founded a college, yet all the schools together cannot boast of as many students as He has.  He never practiced medicine, yet He healed more broken hearts than the doctors have healed broken bodies.  This Jesus Christ is the star of astronomy, the rock of geology, the lion and the lamb of zoology, the harmonizer of all discord, and the healer of all diseases.  Throughout history great men have come and gone, yet He lives on.  Herod could not kill Him, Satan could not seduce Him, death could not destroy Him, and the grave could not hold Him.  This is our Christ the pre-eminent One." THANKS BE TO GOD FOR HIS UNSPEAKABLE GIFT

"IT IS MOST WONDERFUL TO LEARN
SUCH LOVE TO ME, SO FREE, SO SURE;
BUT SADLY STRANGE THAT I RETURN
A LOVE SO FALTERING AND POOR.
YET, LORD, I WANT TO LOVE THEE MORE;
RENEW THE FLAME WITHIN MY HEART,
TO LOVE THEE WHOLLY, AND ADORE
UNTIL I SEE THEE AS THOU ART."

EDEN'S FATEFUL CHOICE

How beautiful the flowers bloomed on Eden’s brow
The lion feeding with the lambs together grew
And perfect peace became the pledge for all to see
God’s awesome glory and eternal majesty.

No virgin love could ever match two hearts that day
As heaven’s Presence followed them at work or play
The Tree of Life whose leaves brought healing to all men
Gave Paradise one glorious hue of color blend.

But pride began to question freedom’s right to choose
The Serpent’s plan apart from God seemed better news
So in the course of time the fruit to make one wise
Became the sting of death that caught man by surprise!

But why this veil of night so cloaked in haunting fears?
Would man exchange God’s righteousness for mortal tears?
It was the price that disobedience had to pay
That formed this chasm touching every man today.

Yet from the ashes of despair the Lamb was slain
To bridge this separation from sin’s crimson stain
So while He calls for you to meet Him face to face
Receive this priceless Gift of God’s redeeming grace.

OPRAH AND ROB BELL'S GOD

After listening to Oprah's interview with Rob Bell about their "new" and "enlightened" gospel, I felt compelled to respond with this warning: “the Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons . Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron” (I Tim. 4:1-2). This interview was a deja vu of what produced the 60's hippie-free-love movement.  It is the "pantheistic" gospel which was born in the Garden of Eden with Satan's deceptive question: "did God really say?" with its death-knell-hook: "God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God knowing good and evil" (Gen.3:1,5).  The problem we all have is trying to understand an infinite God through our finite minds.  There are many questions about the Bible I still have a hard time understanding.  My puny mind can't embrace, comprehend and, much less, answer issues that are not clearly or even remotely explained in Scripture.  God is too incomprehensibly omniscient and because He is the "Potter and I am the clay", I must rest my decisions on what I do know the Bible teaches and that is a faith issue!   Having said that, I sense that Rob and Oprah are trying to explain God by humanizing God and ultimately deifying man.  God is Love but He is also Holy and Just!  We cannot fully understand Grace unless we wrestle with the issues of Justice and Mercy, otherwise, Christ's death was a big mistake and Redemption must be explained away.  Maybe that is why Christ was not even mentioned or remotely suggested in their entire conversation except for a casual statement of a historic Jesus in the gospels.

The Apostle Paul dealt with this same problem in the church at Galatia. A new kind or a gospel was being introduced which Paul calls a "heteros" gospel: "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to another gospel--- which is really no gospel at all" (Gal.1:6-7) and then comes down pretty hard on those who apostatize, with the warning: "if anybody preaches to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned" (v.9).

My real concern is that many Christians are being mesmerized or subtly sucked into a "new age" kind of theology that desires to make the gospel more acceptable to everyone.  But the exclusiveness of Christianity demands that our only understanding and explanation of the Gospel be drawn from Scripture only.  That is why Paul warned Timothy: "study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that is not ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15).

While listening to Rob and Oprah, the Lord brought to my mind a Scripture that applies to this interview or any other teaching that either denies or waters down God's inerrant, irrefutable and infallible Word of God: "there will be terrible time in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love...lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God---having a form of godliness but denying it power. Have nothing to do with them" (2 Tim.3:1-5).
I trust this will give you a little light into the "window of my soul" which includes a deep longing and prayer that Robbie returns to the God Who is absolutely Just, Merciful, and full of Grace and whose Son, Jesus Christ, came to show us a Love which passes ALL understanding.

MY HEART'S PRAYER

"Is there a thing beneath the sun
That strives with Thee my heart to share?
O tear it thence, and reign alone
The Lord of every motion there.
Then shall my heart from earth be free
When it has found repose in Thee!"

"YESTERDAY,
I BUNDLED UP MY PROBLEMS
WRAPPED THEM
TIED THEM WITH TWINE
AND HANDED THEM TO YOU, LORD!

THEN I TRIPPED
OVER THE STRING
I WAS STILL CLUTCHING.

TODAY,
YOU CAN SEE
THERE ARE NO STRINGS
ATTACHED!"

LESSONS FROM A BUTTERFLY

As I was walking through the forest green
By chance I came across the strangest scene.
Two caterpillars talked of taking flight
Yet absent wings revealed their awful plight.

Twas then I saw them climb a large oak tree
Two leaves became their hope for liberty
They fanned the leaves to soar the azure sky
But gravitation almost bid them die.

Just then by chance they saw a butterfly
Who said that just like him they too could fly
But they must choose the path that leads to death
For freedom’s birth comes through a chrysalis.

At first the cost was far too much to bear
The path from death to life did not seem fair
Yet crawling on the ground was not the way
And so they yielded to its “call” that day.

In time, their tomb revealed a miracle
The caterpillar’s crypt gave way to wings
And there above the trees I saw them fly
While lifting praise to Him Who dwells on high.

Just then God’s Voice spoke clearly to my heart
“True freedom comes to those He sets apart!”
So when my yielded will gave Him control
His metamorphic work released my soul.

Now grace bids me to fly and gives me wings
To soar above the lure of earthly things
And share the News from Him Who reigns above
So those enslaved can also find God’s love.

APOCALYPTIC SIGNS

The war-clouds are forming
The nations are raging
The stage is preparing
The drama unfolding.

The end time revealing
God's Word is fulfilling
The spotlight is showing
The prophet's clear warning.

The Nations are gathering
And Israel is trembling
Invasion is threatening
To rob them His blessing.

Beware while reflecting
That God is rejecting
His promise replacing
The Church now possessing.

An oath that is binding
When by Himself swearing
Cannot by rebelling
Be broken for sinning.

The hour is coming
At Jesus' returning
When Israel repenting
His promise fulfilling.

SUMMER'S PAST

Everything seems so quiet now
School has driven kids off shore
English, Math and Science too
Summer's frolic sounds no more.

I walk along the sandy beach
Where loons still call out to their young
The robins soon will take their flight
Where birds migrate and blend in song.

I stand where Piatt's shore spreads out
Near Gene and Alan's golden sand
As memories past fly into view
The net is up with ball in hand.

I hear the voices rise in pitch
As teams are chosen for the fray
The tension mounts, excitement grows
Each time the volleyball's in play.

Before the third or fourth game starts
A rowdy dash into the Lake
Dispels the heat and cools the brow
Allowing others to partake.

The day soon ends against the sky
The Conference music calls to all
Raise your voice in song!” is heard
With stirring message to recall.

But Fall has caught me unaware
The colored leaves all blend their hue
Retracing steps I've left behind
With memories past I think of you.

WHY GOD IS SILENT

I heard God’s voice so clear at first
His Word spoke deeply to my heart
I knew just what to do right then
It was His presence from the start.

Then other voices soon were heard
That made me turn my mind to see
If this was now the only choice
That God intended just for me.

So when my thoughts led me astray
Confusion followed me around
The voice that once was loud and clear
Became a hallow, empty sound.

As I was wandering in the night
My troubled soul was griped by fear
Until confession brought me back
To where His leading became clear.

Now when I hear the Shepherd’s voice
I follow closely by His side
Assured that when He speaks again
I know He'll be my faithful Guide.

THE CALVARY ROAD

I've walked life's road for many years
At times I've faced some bitter tears
I've seen the good which made me glad
I've known the wrong which made me sad
Yet when I weighed each gain or loss
I sensed the conflict of the Cross.

Just why should love and grace appear
When man rejects God's offer here?
The Law revealed the Judge's claim
All men are slaves and bound by shame
When Jesus showed His nail pierced hand
The Cross revealed salvation's plan.

The Serpent's lie to be a “god”
Enslaved all men upon earth's sod
Yet God ordained sin's price be paid
Upon His Son our sins were laid
This Calvary Road will always be
The only place to be set free.

CHOOSE WISELY

The course of life is like a race
And every man is on the team
Its valleys or its mountaintops
Are strewn with obstacles between.

Decisions come in various ways
And are the signs that mark the path
But only those who rightly choose
Can see the value of their task.

Some find the race too burdensome
While others seek escape from pain
But only those who follow strong
Will not have run their race in vain.

There is a road each man must take
And only two around each bend
There’s one that leads to heaven’s Shore
The other to a Christless end.

THE SECRET OF JOY

How vain man searches for a way
Through earthly toys that soon decay
And thinks these things bring happiness
Yet find, it leads to emptiness.

In every life a God-shaped void
Is built within the heart of man
So he can know down deep inside
Redeeming grace that will abide.

But joy is not made up of things
That bid one soar on eagle wings
The answer found is knowing Him
And helping free those bound by sin.

The fruit of joy one can express
Is helping widows in distress
Or helping orphans find a home
Where they no longer need to roam.

So as you seek help from above
Let Jesus fill you with His love
Then through the service you impart
Real joy will overflow your heart.

THE WEB OF DECEPTION

Deceptive thoughts that trick the mind
Like flies caught in a spider’s web
Try hard to shake its silken grip
Before its venom strikes it dead.

How subtle is this rude disguise
Intriguing lures that bate their prey
While scintillating to the eye
Dark shades of night eclipse the day.

Yet that is how a habit forms
In innocence we take the bate
By first enduring then embrace
A slave to what we later hate.

In this imprisoned wilderness
Like blowing winds that blind the eye
The only path through desert storm
Is taking flight above the sky.

The Pilot comes to rescue all
Who in repentance take His hand
For freedom is the promise made
Who in Christ's victory take their stand.

MY QUIET TIME

I 'm overwhelmed this quiet time
I find it hard to comprehend
That He Who formed the universe
Should stoop to be my Special Friend

The angels round His throne may sing
Proclaiming glory to the King
But when redemption's work was done
He claimed me as His chosen son.

The message of His love proclaims:
The door of Grace is open wide!”
And all who come in Jesus' name
Are called to be His special Bride.

But why should He have chosen me
A hopeless slave of sin and shame
I cannot understand such grace
But praise and magnify His name.

So while I'm sitting here alone
I bow in worship and in praise
To Him who sits in heaven's throne
Both now and through eternal days.

LET ME CRY ON YOUR SHOULDER

Loneliness met me this morning
Life seemed so empty and gray
Time came along to torment me
Leaving me helpless all day.

I was afraid to go further
Walking this valley alone
Fear and despair my companions
Seeking for grace to be shown.

Then I called out in my anguish
Out of the depth of despair:
"Is there a hand that can rescue
Will you come answer my prayer?"

Please let me cry on your shoulder
Help drive this darkness away
Then I will stand in the sunlight
Knowing real joy for the day.

DADDY! COME HOME!

The house seems so empty
Since you went away
You promised to call me
And come back to stay
But time has forgotten
I feel so alone
Oh daddy! Oh daddy!
Why don't you come home?

I thought you loved mommy
She cared about you
The struggles you're facing
Seemed only a few
But love's disappointments
Had torn you apart
Oh daddy! Oh daddy!
Come back to my heart.

I have only memories
To comfort my days
The tears keep on flowing
I live in a daze.
I wanted my daddy
To give me away
And walk down the Isle
On my wedding day.

I pray every morning
That you will come back
And help heal the hurting
From bitterness past.
God's love can unite us
Restoring the flame
Oh daddy! Oh daddy!
Please call on His name.

LORD,SEND THE RAIN!

We hear of distant thunder clouds
We long for later rain.
Our barren souls are thirsty, Lord
For showers to remain.

Remove the guilt our sin has caused
And with repentant heart
May love begin to flow again
And never more depart.

The Master waits to open wide
The floodgates of His grace
So that the message of the cross
May reach each tribe and race.

REFRAIN
Lord, let the showers of heaven descend
Pour out the oil of joy again.
Breathe through our hearts your love today
And may your waiting Church obey.

WHEN TRIALS COME

In every life some clouds will form
And tears may fall like summer rain
The questions that bring most distress
Are wounds that rob us of our rest.

The loss when we must say goodbye
To those we hold so very dear
And never have another chance
To bid farewell or give them thanks.

Yet far more painful are the words
That crush the spirit from a friend
Creating anguish and despair
When they no longer seem to care.

Is there a lesson we can learn
When uninvited trials come?
Is God concerned with my distress
As I walk through this wilderness?

His answer echoes loud and clear
He is conforming us to Him
So we can clearly point the way
To others who might go astray.

So don’t forget when storm clouds come
God’s promised rainbow will appear
And you will shine far brighter still
As you reflect His glorious will

WHY NOT PRAY?

I knocked at your door this morning
"Could We meet together in prayer?"
I knew the pressures you're facing
Were needing the touch of My care.

I stood there waiting beside you
But you were too busy to ask
Thinking the choice you were making
Was the easiest part of the task.

Decisions resulted in conflict
Confusion filled most of your day
While quietly I tried to whisper:
“My peace would have pointed the way!”

So now that your day is soon over
Disrupted by strain and despair
I would like once again to ask you:
"Could we meet together in prayer?”

FEELING LOST?

There are times life has no meaning
Like a ship that’s tempest tossed
Without sail or sturdy rudder
In the darkness can be lost.

What seemed once a sunny future
With a vision bright and clear
Quickly turns to disappointment
From a sudden wave of fear.

Broken dreams can break the spirit
When all hope seems torn away
And the soul cries out in anguish
For some light along the way.

Then a voice speaks through the darkness
As the Captain calms the storm
Bringing back the broken vessel
Till she lands safe on the shore

Now I find when trouble threatens
To destroy my trust in Him
I just call out to my Captain
To control my life within.

ORDINARY BUTTONS

Buttons are treasures that touch all our lives
They’re sown on a jacket or shirts without ties
Their colors all blend on a fancy new dress
To help make you look like a royal princess.

So why do we treat them with so little worth
When buttons are used all over the earth?
Or maybe a lesson or two can be learned
From these useful treasures that often are spurned.

I think that the Lord who created mankind
Has one special plan for each Christian in mind.
No matter how small or simple the task
Each deed that is done will bring pleasures that last.

So next time you think that your gift is too small
Remember those buttons and give it your all
Each garment of love that you help to complete
Is one of the crowns we will lay at His feet.

I LOVE BLUE

I love blue and I love you
I bet you cannot guess just who?
The sky is blue, the ocean too
And thoughts of love are always true.

So why does blue affect me so
When other colors shine and glow
Is there some charm I fail to know?
Or is a rainbow just for show?

I know that some like red or green
And thoughts of love for them is seen
But they don't know the secret part
The color blue stirs in my heart.

So now, I guess, you want to know
Just why this color charms me so?
The secret lies in mystery’s hand
Perhaps one day you'll understand!

THEN FREEDOM CAME!

Once I stood in grave clothes
Bound by sin and shame
Then the voice of Jesus echoed
Loose those chains!” then freedom came!

All at once its grip was broken
Satan’s power no longer ruled
Sin had lost its claim upon me
On redemption’s Rock I stood.

Heaven’s Light burst all around me
Sin’s dark shadow hid its face
All the past was now forgiven
In the fullness of His grace.

Then the shouts of victory sounded
Songs of praise were lifted high
As the cross of Jesus conquered,
Hallelujah’s filled the sky!

JUST WAIT A MOMENT!

A MOMENT IS A STRETCH IN TIME
IT IS LIFE'S GIFT IN WHICH TO SHINE
WE OFTEN LIVE LIKE TIME WON'T END
AND CANNOT SEE BEYOND THE BEND.

YOUTH HAVE THEIR MOMENTS IN THE SUN
EACH CROWDED DAY IS FILLED WITH FUN
WITH TEXTING, STYLES AND DRAMA PLAYS
THERE'S LITTLE TIME TO CHECK THEIR WAYS.

THE FAMILY SEEKS TO FIND A HOME
WHERE CHILDREN HAVE A PLACE TO ROAM
YET SOON THE NEST IS EMPTY SPACE
AS TIME MOVES QUICKLY THROUGH LIFE'S RACE.

THE AGED NOTE THE FALLING LEAVES
AMID THE WINTER'S CHILLING BREEZE
THE CLOCK OF TIME BEGINS TO SHOW
HOW SOON LIFE ENDS BEFORE WE KNOW.

THEN COMES THE TIME IN LIFE WE FEAR
WHEN LOVED ONES GATHER WITH A TEAR
AND SAY GOODBY WITH HEAVY HEART
THIS LIFE SO QUICKLY TORN APART.

SO WHILE WE HAVE THIS MOMENT HERE
BEFORE ETERNITY DRAWS NEAR
MAY ALL OUR THOUGHTS AND DEEDS BRING PRAISE
TO CHRIST OUR LORD THROUGH ALL OUR DAYS.

MEMORIAL TEARS

THE TIME HAS COME TO BID FAREWELL
TO SAY ONCE MORE, "I MISS YOU SO!"
IT IS NOT EASY THROUGH THESE TEARS
TO SHAKE THE THOUGHTS OF BYGONE YEARS.

IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY
WE WALKED AND TALKED ALONG LIFE'S PATH
BUT LIKE A CLOUDY MIST THAT FORMS
SOON SPIRITS FLY BEYOND EARTH STORMS.

WHY DOES THIS STING OF DEATH CAUSE PAIN
WHILE BROKEN HEARTS SEEK JOY IN VAIN?
IT IS THE CURSE WHERE SIN TOOK PLACE
WHICH CALVARY'S BLOOD CAN NOW ERASE.

WHEN TIME SO QUICKLY PASSED AWAY
I FAILED TO NOTE THE YEARS GO BY
SO WHEN I HEARD YOUR FLIGHT TOOK PLACE
I LONGED TO SHARE ONE LAST EMBRACE.

NOW MEMRY'S ALL I HAVE TO HOLD
IT IS THE LIGHT THAT MARKS MY PATH
SO WHEN WE MEET ON HEAVEN'S SHORE
TOGETHER WE WILL PART NO MORE.

I WEEP ONCE MORE ABOVE YOUR GRAVE
THE TENT IS ALL YOU'VE LEFT BEHIND
THE GROOM SENT DOWN HIS CHARIOT FLEET
TO JOIN THE BRIDE AT JESUS' FEET.

THE MANSION CHOSEN FOR OUR HOME
CANNOT DESCRIBE THIS AWESOME GIFT
THAT HE'S PREPARED IN GLORY THERE
FOR HIS VICTORIOUS CHURCH TO SHARE.

MESSIAH'S COMING TO REIGN

                                Zechariah 14:1-21

At the beginning of our study in Zechariah, I tried to imagine each of us sitting in an auditorium watching, on the big screen, the unfolding drama of God's prophetic plan for Israel and her future. Following the 10-fold vision, there was an intermission noted in chapters seven and eight. During the first “oracle”(9-11), we saw Zechariah get involved in the unfolding drama. He dressed as a shepherd, the personification of Jehovah. But Israel, His sheep, refused to accept Him. Instead they sold Him for 30 pieces of silver. The final “oracle” however, describes the Lord's involvement in Israel's future and the dramatic moment when “the Lord God comes, and all the holy ones with Him”(v.5b). The climax of history will be the personal return of Christ to earth! “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven” (Acts 1: 11).

John MacArthur summarizes this closing chapter by stating: “Chapter 14 is an amplification of 13: 8,9. Prior to Israel’s national conversion (cf.12: 10-13: 1), the Jews will make a pact with a false messiah (cf. Dan.9: 27), known as the foolish shepherd (cf.11: 15-17) or Antichrist. In the middle of that 7-year covenant, Antichrist will break his treaty with Israel and require the worship of him alone (Dan.9: 24-27; Matt:24: 15; 2 Thess.2: 3-4). When Israel refuses, the armies of the world will gather to do battle, climaxing in a great siege of Jerusalem and the Battle of Armageddon (Rev.19). Following the Lord’s victory at the battle (cf.19:11-16), will come the full restoration of Israel as anticipated in Hos.14: 4-7; Joel 3: 18-21; Amos 9: 13-15; Mic.4: 1-3; Zeph.3: 14-20” (The MacArthur Study Bible, p.1356).

Zechariah picks up the pen in this last chapter and reveals further events concerning the siege of Jerusalem toward the end of the Tribulation. It also pictures Israel’s deliverance at Messiah’s return. Chapter 12 had already presented a prophetic picture of this siege. However, the first 2 verses provide the backdrop for God’s supernatural deliverance and victorious return as Israel’s King.
Charles Feinberg adds, “It is customary with the prophets to give a general statement and then expand the theme later by the addition of details” (God Remembers: A Study of the Book of Zechariah, p.248).

Verses 1-2 A day of the Lord is coming when your plunder will be divided among you. I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city.”

These verses were not fulfilled during the siege of Jerusalem in 70AD under Titus since all nations were not gathered around Jerusalem and the Lord did not “stand on the Mount of Olieves” to defeat the enemies of Israel. Boice states: “The ending of chapter 13 spoke of the destruction of two-thirds of the people and the preservation and purification of the remaining one-third. This is consistent with the sacking of Jerusalem described n 14:2 and preservation of a remnant in 14:5. In general terms, 14:1-5 is also consistent with 12:1-9, although the earlier passage does not say that Jerusalem will be overrun before God intervenes to save it and its people” (The Minor Prophets, Vol. 2, p.563). Its fulfillment then lies in the future after Antichrist breaks his seven year treaty with Israel in an effort to exterminate all Jews. This will lead to that final siege when Nations gather around Jerusalem for the climactic battle of Armageddon which according to Luke 21:24 terminates the “times of the Gentiles.”

Verses 3-8 Then the Lord will go out against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem and the mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. You will flee by the mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. It will be a unique day, without daytime or nighttime—a day known to the Lord. When evening comes, there will be light. On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea and half to the western sea, in summer and in winter.”

Just when it seems that all hope is gone, the Lord Himself appears as the victorious conqueror over the nations pillaging Israel. His descent on the Mount of Olives creates a split running east and west. The great valley will afford an easy escape route from the final anti-Semitic genocide described in verse 2. McComiskey adds, “the geological shift of the mountain northward and southward created an awareness of awesome power, a vivid pictorial representation of the activity of the invisible God of history” (The Minor Prophets, p.1230).

Like a fireworks display on the 4th of July celebration, a number of cosmic events are summarized in the last 13 verses of this chapter.

  1. Verses 6-7 describe the unique condition of the “day” of His appearing: “without daytime or nighttime.” His glorious appearing causes the celestial luminaries to no longer have their normal function. The Apostle John paints a similar picture by stating: “the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light”(Rev.21: 23). David Baron explains “a day for Jehovah”: as “the day set apart and appointed by Him, not only for the display of His majesty and the vindication of the righteousness of His character and ways, but it is the day of the manifestation of His Divine might and the glory of the destruction of Israel's enemies, and the salvation of His own people” (The Visions and Prophecies of Zechariah, p.495).

  2. Verse 8 indicates that “living waters” will flow from Jerusalem running continuously eastward toward the Dead Sea and westward toward the Mediterranean. It seems best to view the “waters” as both literal and symbolic. John describes the New Jerusalem as a “pure river of water of life proceeding from the throne of God” (Rev.22: 1-2) Again, we are not certain if both interpretive thoughts are intended. One thing is certain! When the Lord comes back to reign Israel will once again become like the Garden of Eden. This prophecy is connected with Joel 3:18, Ezekiel 47:2, and Revelation 22:1-2 where “living waters” come forth from Jerusalem for the “healing of the nations.”

  3. Verses 9-11 makes it clear that Christ will rule from Jerusalem; the surrounding hills will be leveled like the Arabah; while the City itself will be elevated and safely inhabited: “The Lord will be king over the whole earth...the whole land, from Geba to Rimmon, will be like the Arabah... Jerusalem will be raised up.” Geba was one of the border towns to the north of Judah, while Rimmon was in the southern border of Palestine, north of Beersheba. Jerusalem will stand out above all the rest of the countryside. This same prophecy is spoken of by Isaiah and Micah: “In the last days the mountain of the Lord's temple ...will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it”(Is.2:2); “the mountain of the Lord's temple ...will be raised above the hills, and peoples will stream to it” (Micah 4:1).

  1. Verses 12-15 gives one last glimpse of the Lord’s intervention on behalf of His people. The defeat of hostile nations waging war against Jerusalem is vividly descriptive: “bodies rotting even before they hit the ground; eyes rotting in their sockets; and tongues rotting in their mouths” (v.12). God’s awesome power will be so singularly displayed that His enemies in panic will kill each other (v.13) leaving their wealth behind as booty for victorious Israel. (v.14)

  2. Verses 16-19 describe the universal worship of Jesus as King over the whole earth: “Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty.” The celebration will be like the Feast of Tabernacles in Old Testament times (Lev.23: 41-43). The celebration marked the final harvest of the year’s crops and its festive gathering was filled with thanksgiving and praise. The millennial celebration will likewise be a “feast” marking the final, joyful regathering of Israel in full Kingdom blessing along with the in-gathering of the Nations.

  3. Verses 20-21 “On that day Holy To The Lord will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots in the Lord;s house...every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the Lord Almighty.” “Holiness” will be the nature of the coming messianic kingdom. So pervasive will be the rule of righteousness that even the most common objects will be “holy to the Lord.” The assurance that no “Canaanite” will exist in His Temple guarantees the end of all impurity in God’s kingdom.

The King is coming with power and great glory! “On his robe and on his thigh he has the name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” (Rev.19: 16). The stage is set for this final, climactic drama in human history. The chapter is about to close! The curtain rises on this majestic, awesome picture of Israel’s Messiah descending from heaven on a white horse, followed by myriads of saints on white horses (Rev.19: 11) to help inaugurate His thousand year reign. Then the “kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ and he shall reign for ever and ever” (Rev.11: 15).

THE VICTORY OF MESSIAH KING

THE FINAL ACT UPON LIFE’S STAGE
REVEALS THE BLOODIEST SCENES OF ALL
WHERE DEATH AND CARNAGE, RAPE AND SWORD
ARE MET WITH JUDGMENT FROM THE LORD.

THE ARMIES OF THE WORLD ARE SEEN
AROUND MEGIDDO’S OPEN PLAIN
WHERE REVELATION FORCES MEET
AND SATAN’S PLOT ENDS IN DEFEAT.

AS ANTICHRIST TAKES DAVID’S THRONE
DEMANDING WORSHIP FOR HIS OWN
THE BROKEN COVENANT HE MADE
LEAVES EVERY JEW IN SHOCK AFRAID.

THEN SUDDENLY ALL LIGHTS GROW DIM
THE SUN AND MOON REFUSE TO SHINE
A SPECIAL DAY BURSTS INTO SIGHT
THE BRIDE AND GROOM APPEAR IN WHITE.

THE KING-MESSIAH TAKES HIS STAND
AND WITH ONE BREATH DESTROYS HIS FOES
WHEN EVERY WARRIOR’S FLESH DROPS OFF
IT IS THE LAST OF ISRAEL’S WOES.

THEN SATAN’S REIGN WILL BE REPLACED
A THOUSAND YEARS OF LASTING PEACE
WILL FLOOD THE WORLD FROM ZION’S THRONE
WHERE JESUS CHRIST WILL REIGN ALONE.

JERUSALEM WILL RISE IN HEIGHT
AND ALL THE NATIONS THAT REMAIN
WILL JOIN WITH JEWS TO CELEBRATE
THE PRAISE AND HONOR DUE HIS NAME.

WHEN PROPHECY AND HISTORY MERGE
THE FINAL SCENE WILL END IN TIME
AND HOLINESS WILL BE THE SEAL
BEFORE WHOM EVERYONE WILL KNEEL.

                                             THOUGHT QUESTIONS

1. Three major events are described in this last chapter: the Great Tribulation invasion of Jerusalem; the destruction of those Nation attacking her; and, the establishment of Christ's millennial reign. As you read Daniel 9:27, what event triggers this final battle?

2. What are some of the contributing factors leading to the final Armageddon Battle (vs.1-2)?

3. Verse 4 seems to be connected with the seventh bowl judgment of Revelation 16:18-19. Explain! How might this great earthquake help the Jewish people during this time?

4. The special "day" described in verses 6-7 is identical to the passage in Matthew 24:29-30. What are some of the things that will make this particular day so uniquely different from other days? What "day" is he describing and why might the Lord want that "day" to be uniquely different from any other day that has ever existed?

5. Verse 8 describes a river that flows out of Jerusalem. Is that the same as the one described in Isaiah 35:1,6; Ezekiel 47:1-12 and Psalm 46:1-4? What is your opinion?

6. In summary: what will happen when Jesus returns to earth again? Describe some of the major events. What will happen to the Antichrist, false prophet and Satan? What part does Israel and the Church play during the Millennial Kingdom? What then should we live in the light of these world-shaking events?
