How beautiful to see the Eagle fly
With wings of strength to soar the
azure sky
The current winds that blow
against the mountain peaks
Display in mystery's symbol what
our Nation seeks.
The Eaglet's feel secure within
their nest
They have protection near their
mother's breast
No predator would dare to harm its
young by day
Because the Eagle's power is near
to thwart its prey.
At times the red tailed Hawk
appears in sight
The threat of death seems certain
in its flight
Distraction turns the Eagle's eye
to other things
And suddenly the Eaglet lies with
broken wings.
How subtle is the trap that bates
its prey
As warning signs unheeded look
away
What once was black or white we
changed to gray
When first we pity, then endure,
then disobey.
America, the land for freedom
fought
With liberty and justice for each
man sought
Because it has exchanged God's
Word for earthly things
The Eagle's strength is gone
because of broken wings.
